Thank you for your interest in the Animal Health Trust. This year sees us celebrate our 10-year anniversary of the opening of our Small Animal Hospital, a pioneering veterinary hospital dedicated to improving the health and welfare of the UK’s dogs and cats.
Since its opening, the Hospital has provided the specialist care and expertise to thousands of complex cases. The centre’s specialise in anaesthesia, dermatology, ophthalmology (eye diseases), neurology, oncology (cancers), internal medicine and soft-tissue surgery.
The caseload of the Small Animal Hospital has doubled in the last decade with more than 6,000 dogs and cats passing through its doors in 2005 and the demand for our leading edge veterinary work continues to grow. This puts enormous pressure on our resources, and, with such unprecedented growth in our caseload, we urgently need to undertake a programme of expansion and replace ageing equipment.
One area of exceptional growth has been in our Oncology or Cancer Unit. This is not surprising given that cancer affects an alarming 1 in 4 dogs and 1 in 6 cats. However, despite popular belief, cancer is the most curable, chronic disease in ani mals and is often cured through surgery. However, radiotherapy and chemotherapy have important roles to play in appropriate treatment protocols.
We desperately need a new Isolator and minor building modifications for the safe handling of drugs used for chemotherapy patients. With no government funding or income for expansion provided by the cases referred to the clinic, we need your help to raise £30,000 in donations towards this first phase of our 10th Anniversary Appeal.
We hope that by supporting the appeal you will help us celebrate this birthday and join with us in helping many more animals benefit from the specialist care provided by this unique Animal Hospital.
